Yanukovych not going to compensate RosUkrEnergo with gas or cash
The cabinet won’t compensate RosUkrEnergo [whose natural gas was allegedly confiscated by the Tymoshenko cabinet] as the Stockholm court ruling says, Yanukovych’s chief of staff Serhy Liovovhkin declared, speaking in a talk show on the TBi channel June 20. “Right now, we are not going to repay the RosUkrEnergo with cash or gas,” he said.
“We are waiting for official documents from the Stockholm court. Following this, the Ukrainian cabinet will map out its tactics,” Liovochkin said.
The court in Sweden ordered the government of Ukraine to return to RosUkrEnergo 11 blm cu m of gas and 1.1 bln cu m in compensation of damages.
Also, Ukraine will have to pay $197 mln for breach of contract with RosUkrEnergo.
In the wake of the Stockholm court ruling, SBU opened a probe into damaging the interests of the state due to implementing the ruling. The list of suspects in the case includes all former Naftohaz Ukrayiny board members, Ukrayinska Pravda reports.
Commenting on the SBU probe, Liovochkin said, “It won’t be a probe into the activities of the former regime of Tymoshenko. It will be a probe into the actions of officials who took specific decisions that led to Ukraine losing the case in Stockholm.”
Reimbursements and compensations to RosUkrEnergo will make a huge dent in Ukraine’s budget if done. It will cause a direct damage to the country’s economy, the chief-of-staff went on.
Those guilty of inflicting such losses will have to be put in prison. It seems quite reasonable,” Liovochkin summed up.
