Ukraine will take 10 years to join top 20 developed countries, Pres Yanukovych proclaims

“I, hereby, announce the start of the first stage of economic reforms that will bring us to success,” the incumbent solemnly declared.
The goal of his reforms is clear – within 10 years Ukraine will join the top 20 industrial nations of the world, Yanukovych pledged.
The standards of life of Ukrainians must equal those in Europe. To attain this, we must ensure a stable economic growth. We will cut the budget deficit and stabilize the state debt. We will ease the tax burden and enlarge the tax base. We will lower inflation and ensure credits for the economy, Yanukovych went on.
He stressed that, as a result of reforms, regions will get more financial autonomy and larger budgets.
He said his reforms will ease pressure administrative pressure on business.
As his priority, Yanukovych noted completion of privatization and effective management of state-owned companies.
“We will stimulate innovative development, free trade with the EU and CIS states,” he added.
His reforms will raise efficiency of power engineering, coal, oil&gas industries and the utilities sector.
“We will modernize the transport infrastructure, create a land market, raise productivity of agriculture. We will cut down the number and raise professional level of state officials,” he said.
