Lviv police disperse crowds of protesters to clear way for Yanukovych. Photo
Pushed off by riot police, about 1,000 of Svoboda NGO members lined the opposite side of the street facing the session hall where Ukraine governors, cabinet members and Pres Viktor Yanukovych discussed how to attract investments to the Lviv oblast. When Yanukovych arrived he was met with chants from his supporters and Svoboda members, our correspondent reports.
Lviv sheriff Ihor Tsikalo said there were about 500 Svoboda protesters near the Lviv Polytechnic. Tsikalo ordered reinforcements as soon as he saw the approaching Svoboda pickets. “We didn’t expect Svoboda to be so aggressive. Therefore, we moved in reinforcements to bring our strength to 1,000,” he said.
