Tymoshenko cabinet officials to be prosecuted for misappropriating UAH210 mln of money earned for sales of Kioto protocol quotas
Under the Kioto protocol, Ukraine received UAH320 mln for the sale of air pollution quotas. Of this amount, merely UAH110 is left, deputy prosecutor general of Ukraine Tetyana Kornyakova said, addressing a session of rayon prosecutors May 21.The PGO exposed misappropriation of money in 2009 when it was checking the ministry of the environment. Now we have the documents on the cash flow at out disposal and we can trace where the money was gone,” IMK quotes Kornyakova as saying.
The Kioto protocol is an international agreement to limit the amount of man-made gases in the atmosphere. Excess amounts of such gasses may impact the Earth’s climate severely.
Ukraine is signatory to the Kioto protocol and, as a country with low industrial production, can sell its quotas to highly developed industrial states.
