As expected, Tabachnyk launches attack on Vakarchuk

The new minister of education, Dmytro Tabachnyk, says his predecessor, Ivan Vakarchuk, left him the ruins, UNIAN reports March 17.

“What is left of the ministry is a total ruin,” Tabachnyk said.
Ministry’s debts for printing textbooks have reached UAH30 million. “If we try to publish new textbooks this year, the ministry’s accounts will be arrested. This is the result of work of the so-called patriotic parties. If this has been done by Ukrainian parties, I do not know what could have been done by anti-Ukrainian parties. The ministry has to pay to printers UAH30 million,” Tabachnyk commented.
Tabachnyk went on to say that the textbooks for Year 9 students were printed only in December 2009. “How could they work without the textbooks for 4 months, I don’t know. No competition for textbooks have been announced. The ministry hasn’t funded knowledge contests in schools due in March - April. Not a single school bus has been purchased for village schools in the past 2 years and many programs have been scrapped,” Tabachnyk added.
“I was a pessimist but when I saw the true situation… If you consider this track record worthy of a professional, I’m just stuck for words which can describe it,” Tabachnyk concluded.
