State coffers empty, economic nosedive continues, state debt trebles, Azarov says
The new cabinet will base its work on Pres Yanukovych’s campaign program “Ukraine for its People,” Premier Mykola Azarov said, UNIAN reports March 16.The implementation of this program will allow to pull the country out of the nosedive, Azarov added.
“The country has been plundered. State coffers are empty, economic downfall continues, state debt has trebled, there is no budget for 2010. Therefore, we will have to put Ukraine back on its feet, every economy sector, every region and the whole system of management,” the premier said.
Azarov pledged to make Ukraine a rule-of-law country without corruption and priority of politics over the economy, investor-friendly business environment, with the rights of its citizens guaranteed and protected.
His cabinet will narrow the difference between low-income and wealthy Ukrainians, as well as to increase the number of middle class citizens to over half of the population, Azarov added.
Ukraine’s GDP per head should equal those of the EU new members, he added.
Azarov also pledged to introduce competitive education and state-of-the-art healthcare system available both to urban and rural populace, energy-saving and environmentally-friendly industrial production, modern agriculture and effective catering system that meets European standards.
“We have a program how to lead the country out of the recession as well as experience and the team that can implement this goal,” he assured.
