New cabinet doomed to implement unpopular reforms and raise price for utility gas, Pashaver says

According to Director of the Center for Economic Development Oleksandr Pashaver, the new cabinet will be forced to implement an austerity program. Its success depends on how quick the cabinet will act, the expert told ZIK March 12.

The Azarov cabinet is faced with the need to impose a tougher administrative control and budget policy. Serhy Tihipko was invited in the cabinet to implement reforms. How effectively the cabinet will perform will be clear in about a month, the expert says.
The austerity program was recommended by the WB as well as other international organizations. Ukraine’s main headache is Naftohaz, Pashaver continues, adding the cabinet will be forced to raise the price of utility gas.
He says, however, that the cabinet won’t be able to raise pensions and salaries, the Regions major campaign promise.
