Constitution is not written in stone,Yanukovych warns
Pres Viktor Yanukovych opts for changing the Constitution "to upgrade the system of government," UNIAN quotes him as saying late Feb. 7 while being interviewed by Inter TV."The instability in Ukraine has caused fatigue in Ukraine, Europe and the world. Many do not comprehend such a Constitution which bans something when there’s a majority in Rada which is ready to work and pass laws. What kind of an answer does such constitution give to the challenges facing Ukraine?" the president questioned.
“If someone, in the face of the needs to introduce the changes,“cannot take them calmly, we will calm down all of them and very soon,” Yanukovych warned.
“We will create such conditions which will enable the people to live peacefully. Without doubt, the shortcomings of the legislation must be corrected,” he summed up.

Banditkovych and the thugs from the Party of Regions will only seek what they have been seeking ever since Kuchma - total, complete, dictatorial power for the personal benefit of Banditkovych, Firtash, Akhmetov, Kolesnikov, Pinchuk, and a few other Jewish and non-Jewish oligarchs.
That's not hard to figure out.
Even under the current flawed Constitution, if they had really wanted to, Banditkovych and his thugs could have contributed to effective government over the past 5 years - but instead, they chose to physically block the Parliament, and to physically block the rostrum in the Parliament.
Or haven't you been paying attention?
For years, those criminal thugs have been spouting slogans - during elections - about a better life for Ukraine's citizens.
But what happens? Banditkovych steals Mezhihirya, a 400-acre estate, from the government, for himself, with Yushchenko's help.
He and his co-criminals continued to do everything they could to rob the country, including stealing the Vanco Prykerchenska Black Sea oil drilling rights - for Akhmetov, with the help of Banditkovych and Yushchenko.
And so on.

These guys are crooks, gangsters, liars, thieves and worse. They have learned how to spout Western-style sound bits, courtesy of Paul Manafort.
But they are still the lowest of the low, and they care not one whit about anyone except themselves and their own power and pocketbooks.
And so I know exactly what these snakes are trying to do.
Because they've done it before.

The problem with the above article is that it does not mention what changes the president is proposing. So it it rather difficult to make any judjementg on what has been proposed.
The constitutional changes made in 2005 were positive not negative. They were a vast improvement in what was written before.
The real issue is the presidency. Yushenko during his term of office demonstatted time and time again that the presidential system has failed Ukraine.
If Yanukovych is sincere then he would seek to remove power and authority form the president and establish Ukraine as a full partliamnetary deocracy in line with european standards and European models.
Ukraine should have, when it established its constitution follwed in the steeps of estonia and Lativia, both former soviet states, who adopted a European parliamentary model.
The presidential system has and will continue to fail Ukraine. It does not work. Yushchenko constantly sought to undermine sucessive aprliamnatary governments and more often then not assumed power and authority were he had none. A president should not have power, Power should lie in the hands of the peoples' democratically elected parliament.
Reform the parliament make it more equitable and representative and also the parliament to govern without undue interference from the head of state.
Until Ukraine get its foundations for democracy right it will continue to flounder.
If it want to be a part of Europe then adopt European models and European standards.
25 out of 27 EU states are parliamentary democracies.
And, we will change the Constitution so that there will be no more freedom of speech, no more freedom of the press - so that the Permanent Coalition of Theft and Robbery wil be able to steal and rob in peace.
And, we will change the name of the country to Akhmetovia-Kolesnikovia-Azarovia."
