Yanukovych sidelines Akhmetov and Firtash groups from posts
First appointments by Viktor Yanukovych indicate that teams of Firtash and Akhmetov won’t get any posts in the president’s office, deputy leader of BYT faction Serhy Sobolev told journalists Feb. 26. “An amazing thing has happened as two influential groups within the Regions, Akhmetov’s and Firtash’s, seem to be sidelined from getting posts in the president’s office,” he said.
The sidelining explains, Sobolev noted, the marked irritation of a Regions heavyweight, Boris Kolesnykov, who admitted that, while the appointments in the president’s office is the business of Yanukovych, appointments in the cabinet must be cleared with the Regions faction.
Besides, the newly-appointed chief-of-staff Liovochkin won’t be involved in implementing a personnel policy within the presidential administration, Sobolev observed.
There’ll be more such frictions within the Regions, Sobolev believes. All efforts to mould the administration and future cabinet from various groups within the PR plus the Lytvyn bloc, Communists and pseudo patriots from NUNS Kostenko, Yatseniuk and Yushchenko will lead to the emergence of a terrarium of politicians, Sobolev predicted.
