Yanukovych has no chance to have puppet premier, Taras Chornovil says
It is still unknown whether Yanukovych appointed Liovochkin as an insider of Firtash or as a person who will, like a big and angry bulldog, scare off all unwelcome visitors. When Yanukovych was serving his second time as premier he agreed to meet only with those whom he wanted to meet with. In fact, Liovochkin, apparently fulfilling his boss’ orders, will isolate Yanukovych of all unwelcome contacts, Taras Chornovil told ZIK Feb. 25.If Liovochkin represents Firtash it means Yanukovych will lose a battle with his entourage, the maverick lawmaker said.
If LIovochkin will act as a bull-dog, it shows the style of work of Yanukovych, Chornovil added. It looks, Chornovil went on, that Yanukovych wants Liovochkin to create a comfort zone for himself.
The appointment of Akimova as deputy head of Yushchenko’s office can be explained by the situation Yanukovych found himself in: he is president without direct access to the executive power, to the cabinet and the economy. Even if the cabinet is replaced, Yanukovych has no chance to have a puppet premier, Chornovil claims.
“Akimova will play the role Shapak played in Yushchenko’s secretariat. It is ample evidence that Yanukovych does not believe in quick reformatting of the coalition and creation of a new cabinet he can control. Akimova, therefore, will monitor the cabinet’s economic policy,” Chornovil says.
The newly-appointed first deputy head of Yanukovych administration, Stanislav Skubashevsky, is one of the few insiders who are absolutely loyal to Yanukovych and who has no affiliation to any groups inside the Regions. His role in the administration will be to select candidates for governors and try to get Rada approve them, Chornovil says.
As regards Anna Herman’s appointment, Chornovil continues, “She was a press secretary and will be the one. She even harbored illusions at some point that she can run the country, hinting that technically she can be the first lady. Now she’s been shown her place. Still, she gets a very profitable job.”
Andry Kravets who became head of the department in charge of presidential property, or DUSYA, was involved in managing Yanukovych personal finance matters and his grab of the Mezhygirya estate. His appointment will not change anything in the DUSYA, and the department will remain as closed as before, with no information released about its budget, Chornovil says.
