Yanukovych has done his best to torpedo coalition with NUNS, Pavlo Zhebrivsky says
Recently, Viktor Yanukovych has done all it takes to render the proposed coalition of Regions and NUNS impossible, IMK quotes a heavyweight NUNS lawmaker, Pavlo Zhebrivsky as saying Feb. 17. “Our Ukraine [a pro-Yushchenko part of the NUNS bloc] cannot accept the continued stationing of Russia Black Sea Fleet in Crimea or joining the Russia-dominated Customs Union as has been proposed by Yanukovych. That is to say, Yanukovych has done his best to torpedo the coalition with NUNS,” the lawmaker said.
“To abide by these Yanukovych declarations amounts to a sell-out of Ukraine’s interests in favor of Russia. This would turn the clock back on all the achievements in the area of Ukraine independence. Even Leonid Kuchma didn’t dare to make such declarations,” Zhebrivsky noted.
“Yanukovych has shown his true colors. In this context, I do not know what should happen to make the proposed coalition a reality. Everybody knows that Yanukovych can muster enough votes in the Rada without NUNS. He wants just to use NUNS as a condom, for a single-time confirmation of the coalition. However, our lawmakers are no spring chickens and will not agree to be used as a condom,” that is how Zhebrivsky commented on the prospect for Regions-NUNS coalition talks.
