Tihipko explains why Ukrainians shouldn’t be wary of Yanukovych
Speaking to Segodnya, Serhy Tihipko said he will work in the opposition if he is not offered a key post in the government. “I guess, the Regions will manage to create a coalition as there are many willing to join it. However, this won’t make the Rada work more effectively. This Rada is not focused on reform. That is why I am in favor of snap elections,” Tihipko said.
Asked what he will do if there are no snap parliamentary elections, Tihipko said there but a few options: either you are in power or in the opposition. I want a post giving me a chance to influence things. I won’t take any side-line job. Failing this, I’ll be in the opposition,” Tihipko added.
Ukrainians are wary of the Donetsk clan politicians coming to power. “One should have any fears. First, I know that Yanukovych is targeted at reforms. He is aware that he has a unique chance to make a name, change his perception and change the country,” the No.3 presidential runner said.
“Second, we won’t sit on the fence. If there are any infringements on democracy, I will criticize them sharply. There won’t be any usurpation of power,” Tihipko assured.
Tihipko said he will be interested in running for Kyiv mayor in case of the mayoral elections. “Kyiv needs someone to implement reforms. I could do this as well as other contenders would,” Tihipko stressed.
