Lviv oblast governor explains high flue death toll by carelessness of Ukrainians

Lviv hospitals are checking out more flue patients than they’re checking in now. This trend has existed for the two past days. The number of Ukrainians seeking medical help has been falling by about 8,000 daily. Yet, the epidemic is still with us, the governor continued.

Today’s situation is by far less serious than it was 5 days ago, the official assured.

The death rate has also dropped. It includes all the victims who died from various types of the flue, he said.

The flue death toll in Ukraine is much lower than predicted by the WHO. So far, only 0.0004% of the total populace has died, while WHO has put its estimate at 1%. Much depends on how the populace treats the epidemic, the governor claimed.

“We should not slow down our efforts to curb the epidemic. Such things as hygiene, washing hands, wearing face masks in busses and the city are rather effective. Important is to see a doctor as the first symptoms appear. Why is the number of dead so high? Because many Ukrainians, even though they were sick, didn’t see their doctors,” the Lviv oblast governor stressed.
