Attempts by Yushchenko boys to replace OU faction head may backfire, Chornovil warns

Commenting on the signature raising campaign to dislodge Martynenko, Chornovil says the whole procedure can be interpreted as a mere protocol on intentions. That is, he explains, the raising of signatures is a preliminary step for calling a meeting to fire the faction head. This kind of scenario is typically used to probe the reality and consequences of such step.

“As far as I know, the signatures of NUNS lawmakers had been raised over a lengthy period staring in May, with the motives of lawmakers probably being absolutely different,” Chornovil notes.

"The whole signatures saga started when pro-Yushchenko NUNS lawmakers received orders to destabilize the coalition. I regret that some absolutely normal guys like Andryj Parubij were entangled in this adventure and signed heaps of documents. They may have serious problems if any falsification is proven. [Prominent lawmakers like Vice-Speaker Tomenko and Sobor party head Matvienko have decried falsification of the list by a group of NUNS lawmakers – Ed.]. Unfortunately, the president’s secretariat does not always send out wise and relevant instructions,” Chornovil says.
