BYT and Regions to by-pass Yushchenko’s veto on funding Euro-2012, says Chechetov
To open funding, Speaker Lytvyn will sign into law the bill to release UAH10 billion to continue the construction of facilities for the Euro-2012 football championship, twice vetoed by Pres Yushchenko, a heavyweight Regions lawmaker told ZIK Oct. 12.“While the president is playing against all country and doing everything to undermine Ukraine’s reputation, the majority of factions in parliament headed by the Regions won’t play the game,” Chechetov declared, adding that by refusing to sign the bill into law Yushchenko is trying to stonewall preparations for the tournament.
For his part, BYT’s Andry Shkil confirmed readiness to fast-track the bill, saying Ukraine must have the Euro-2012. “I do not think the election campaign or even the recession can impede Ukraine from hosting the finals,” the lawmaker said.
Pres Yushchenko says he fears the law will force the Central bank into turning on money-printing presses, suggesting the cabinet to find alternative funding. “I want Verkhovna Rada to address the bill with my amendments again,” the incumbent said.
If VR by-pass him and get the speaker to sign it into law, Yushchenko will protest it in the Constitutional Court, he warned.

- Yushenko is an economic terrorist. His threats to block supply and veto economic legislation are reckless and irresponsible. Many western states have acted to remove power form their head of state to block money bills. Yushchenko is either oblivious or hell bent on wrecking havoc against Ukraine as a last minute desperate attempt to seek revenge. This is the same attitude Hitler took against Warsaw in the last days of WWII..
