Wary of politicizing 2010 budget drafting, Premier Tymoshenko turns for help to IMF

Premier Yulia Tymoshenko has invited IMF’s special mission to assist Ukraine in drafting its 2010 budget from Aug. 31 through Sept. 4. Tymoshenko made the announcement at the Aug. 19 cabinet session, ZIK’s Kyiv correspondent reports.

“To make the budget drafting absolutely predictable and in full cooperation with international experts and world financial institutions, I have appealed to the IMF and invited its team to come to Ukraine from Aug. 31 through Sept. 4 to help us draft the 2010 budget,” the premier said.

The participation of IMF experts will produce a stabilizing effect on preparing the budget, Tymoshenko argued.

The premier also said the budget will be based on macroeconomic indicators agreed with international organizations and experts.

“There are no threats to the budget drafting, save for the current political snafu in Ukraine. It is important that the legislature not politicize the budget discussion and approval. The chaos in VR which is due to the forthcoming presidential election poses the biggest risk for the budget process,” Tymoshenko added.

Earlier, Tymoshenko has predicted a 3% GDP growth in 2010.
