The average forecast of GDP growth in Ukraine for 2010 is 1.7%, the Economy Ministry says.

The forecast was made in the course of a seminar on macroeconomic forecasting with the participation of experts from the ministry, non-state research centers, and international financial organizations held in Kyiv Apr. 2.

The discrepancy of forecasts shown by the participants of the seminar ranged from minus 3% to plus 7.5% of the GDP. However, the majority of experts predicted restoration of economic growth in Ukraine – at the rate of 1.7% of the GDP.

Experts from the Economy Ministry and Finance Ministry of Ukraine, the Institute of the Economy and Forecasting, the International Center for Perspective research, the Institute for Economic Research and Political Consultations, the IMF office in Ukraine, investment companies Astrum and Dragon-Capital spoke at the seminar.

According to experts, Ukraine economy will grow due to the expected increased demand for Ukrainian steel and chemicals on international markets and resumption of normal functioning of the country’s banking system.
