Poroshenko ready to jump on Tymoshenko bandwagon
Petro Tymoshenko, a one-time Yushchenko buddy whom the incumbent tried to play up against Yulia Tymoshenko in 2005, says he is ready to join the cabinet as part of an anti-recession team. He made the statement, speaking on the TVi channel, The Ukrayinska Pravda reports.“If I get a clear proposal and if I have the backing of the team, I am ready to join the cabinet,” Poroshenko said.
Asked if he could be regarded as a Tymoshenko ally, Poroshenko responded by saying, “I could be called an ally of Ukraine.”
The team that will join the cabinet after its reshuffle has a lot to risk by assuming immense responsibility, he added.
“I have never been after a cabinet job specifically. I had a good career in politics and industry where I dealt with steering major enterprises out of bankruptcies. I think, we need an effective professional team of crisis managers to minimize recession and speed up recovery,” Poroshenko said.
“Ukraine is in a position when austerity programs must be adopted to cut spending in order to minimize losses and survive the recession,” he explained.
To implement an anti-recession program, at least 4 political factions in VR should close ranks and create a team. A new parliamentary majority might emerge, he said. The compromise may be followed by radical changes in the cabinet line-up, Poroshenko predicted.
