BYUT and PR not ready yet to topple Yushchenko, Taras Stetskiv says
No one will kick-start Yushchenko’s impeachment on Thursday. However, some backstage bickering and dickering is under way between BYUT and PR. Their goals can be to change the constitution to cancel direct presidential election and elect the president in Verkhovna Rada or to begin the impeachment process, NUNS lawmaker Taras Stetskiv told ZIK March 18.“It does not mean, however, that the impeachment will be started tomorrow. They are not yet ready for it. The NUNS faction will oppose the impeachment as it will hamper the Ukrainian state, the ruling coalition and BYUT,” Stetskiv said.

March 17, a deputy head of Yushchenko’s office warned that while the incumbent and the premier are away in Brussels on March 18, BYUT and Communist lawmakers will initiate Yushchenko’s impeachment. They are actively trying to persuade the Party of Regions to join them. If this happens, it will open the way to a constitutional coup in Ukraine, the deputy head said.
