High tallies of PR and YT in Ternopil indicate fraud or pollsters’ slips
“The results of local elections in Ternopil could be foreseen. However, there were paradoxes. Svoboda did exceptionally well gathering 34% of the vote. Support for rightist radical parties like Svoboda typically builds up in conditions of economic and political crisis. Besides, Svoboda was playing on its home turf. BYUT’s results were low, especially when BYUT refused to take part in the elections one day ahead of the voting, Center for Political Consulting quotes Open Policy think tank director Ihor Zhdanov as saying.Zhdanov said he was surprised by the Party of Regions and Yediny Tsentr high tallies. “According to pollsters forecasts , YT could win a mere 3% of the vote, with the PR 2%. That is why their stunning results cause irony as we have to find out whether they were due to fraud or to the pollsters’ mistakes, Zhdanov stressed.
Ihor Zhanov warned that the election results will be possibly contested in courts, with VR likely setting a special investigation commission to probe into Ternopil results.
