Summing up 2008, forecasting for 2009: Oleh Zarubinsky, Lytvyn Bloc
The ZIK information agency has approached several leading politicians and experts to give their assessment of 2008 and forecasts for 2009. One of them is Oleh Zahrebinsky of the Lytvyn Bloc.2008’s main features
The year 2008 has shown that most of Ukraine’s key politicians failed to come up to scratch. They could not meet the challenges facing Ukrainians now.
Trends in 2009
The year 2009 may see a change of ruling political elites. I don’t think it will happen in 2009, but the process of replacing the present ruling elite will start. I hope a generation of responsible political leaders will come who will be guided by national interests, not personal revenge.
The loser of 2008
There are a lot of losers in the Ukrainian politics and the list of names is regrettably too long.
The winner of 2008
If I indicate Volodymyr Lytvyn, you will probably accuse me of bias. The winner of 2008 was the Ukrainian people: with so many bad guys around, Ukrainians still prefer to live and work in Ukraine as well as bear their children. They are the true heroes.
