Ukraine in for landslide and semi-legal election campaign in spring - Yermolayev
“We have seen a political war between Yushchenko and Tymoshenko declared,” this is how political expert Andry Yermolayev commented to ZIK Dec. 22 on recent mutual accusations by the premier and president.Consequently, the expert goes on, the conflict has passed the point of no return, and no reconciliation is in sight. The premier realizes that she has not much time, and she used the hryvnia downfall to lash out at the incumbent, calling him the enemy of the people. Yushchenko retaliated by calling Tymoshenko a thief. It means the turf battle has reached its radical phase, with the climax expected in February, Yermolayev claims.
Ukraine will not be able to break the impasse without snap elections, the expert goes on. “We are in for a landslide and semi-legal election campaign in spring. No other scenario is likely as both parties have come on a warpath.”

Recall that Dec. 16 Premier Tymoshenmo accused Yushchenko of complicity in corrupt deals related to currency speculations and demanded that he resign.
Dec. 21, Pres Yushchenko said, speaking to journalists, that Premier Tymoshenko must be held accountable for the policy of her cabinet. He then added that the premier is not capable of adequately reacting to economic and social challenges, calling her a thief and power-hungry adventurer.
