Akhmetov: Ukraine in for a bumpy ride
To overcome the economic recession the president and cabinet must invite the world’s best economic experts, Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov said, speaking to journalists in Donetsk Dec. 19.“We should not be ashamed to invite the best brains in the world,” Akhmetov said, stressing the need for quick and effective decisions.
To make quick and effective decisions we must be sure that these decisions are correct and will do good to Ukraine, the steel tycoon added.
A reliable indicator to show that Ukraine is on the right track is the dollar exchange rate. “If we see that the hryvnia exchange rate is strengthening, it means we are on the right track,” Akhmetov said.
Asked by journalists whether the hryvnia will recover Akhmetov responded that Ukraine is in for hard times.
He stressed the need for business and political elites to join forces in an effort to overcome the crisis.
Holding snap elections would be send the wrong signal to the economy and indicate political instability.

- This economic crisis should bring people together, not separate them. The political leaders should lead, people will follow. Ukraine has enormous potential, I agree with Mr. Akhmetov.
