BYUT, NUNS and Lytvyn Bloc ink coalition agreement. Zvarych sheds light on Yushchenko's stand
Rada factions of BYUT, NUNS and Lytvyn Bloc have signed a coalition agreement Dec. 16. However, NUNS faction deputy head Roman Zvarych has called the pro-presidential NUNS lawmakers decision to join the coalition “utter stupidity.” Zvarych resigned in protest, same as NUNS faction whip Vyacheslav Kyrylenko.Disagreeing with the way in which NUNS decision to join the coalition was made by a group 37 defiant members, he said, “It was a dumb decision, and I will never head a faction of dumbheads,” Zvarych said in his interview with The Ukrayinska Pravda.
He said, nonetheless, that he was in favor of such a coalition. “I believed we had to enter in a coalition and assume responsibility for the processes, not stay on the sidelines, because it is irresponsible,” Zvarych commented.
Zvarych added Pres Yushchenko had a different opinion and opposed the creation of the coalition. [The incumbent was after the Rada without a formal coalition because he could disband it any time].
“As NUNS faction deputy head I was part of Yushchenko’s team and had to toe the president’s line. Today I do not see myself in this capacity any longer,” Zvarych announced.
He also said he would not sign the coalition agreement.
