Lviv Judge Zvarych on wanted list
Ihor Zvarych, chief justice of the Lviv oblast appellate court, whom the Council of Judges in Kyiv dismissed on Friday, is now on the wanted list, State Security of Ukraine, Lviv branch, spokesperson told ZIK Dec. 15.Judge Zvarych was accused by the prosecution of taking millions in bribes, after a search of his office and home revealed $2 million and Hr2 million in cash. He checked into a private hospital soon after his office and home were searched by state security agents. As a judge, he has immunity from arrest but was freed by the agents on condition of not leaving Lviv.
After several judiciary bodies in Kyiv stripped him of his position and rank, he disappeared from the private hospital in Birky near Lviv.
At present, Ihor Zvarych’s whereabouts are unknown. Believing he is on the run from the prosecution, SBU and GPO have put him on the wanted list.
His disappearance has sparked pessimistic moods among Ukrainians and doubts that the probe will end in his trial.
