Yushchenko may buy himself impeachment - Kornilov
By becoming head of the Our Ukraine party Yushchenko has glaringly violated Art. 103 of the Constitution as well as the law “On Political Parties which ban president to hold positions in any political parties,” Volodymyr Kornilov, director of the Institute for CIS States, told ZIK Dec. 2.If one examines past minutes of Our Ukraine congresses, it can be seen that several months ago Yushchenko and Zvarych referred to similar actions as a direct violation of the Constitution. Now Yushchenko is openly flouting the land’s main law, Kornilov says.
“While it was not the first time the incumbent provided an excuse for his impeachment, this time BYUT and the Party of Regions can well demand his impeachment,” the political expert said.
According to Kornilov, the incumbent had toyed with plans to create a new party of power based on Yedynyj Tsentr. Now these illusions have been dispelled, and Yushchenko has nothing more than the remains of Our Ukraine at his disposal.
“I cannot imagine the reanimation of Our Ukraine as a political party or Viktor Yushchenko as a contender for presidency in 2010 in a free and democratic election,” Kornilov said.
