Taras Stetskiv: Tymoshenko will agree to snap elections if Yushchenko reschedules them for spring
If the incumbent cancels his decree about snap elections, Verkhovna Rada can reconvene and pass the laws on funding the elections, on the register of voters, on the turnout threshold, among others. Failing this, there won’t be any snap elections in 2008, Taras Stetskiv (People’s Self-Defense) told ZIK Oct. 17.He is strongly opposed to snap elections, T. Stetskiv says, criticizing the court-blocking tactics used by BYUT to disrupt the elections, saying it is uncivilized and undemocratic. However, the lawmaker believes Yulia Tymoshenko has resorted to such tactics in an effort to maintain stability in Ukraine against the backdrop of the world financial crisis. “Holding snap elections in such situation means destroying one’s own country,” T. Stetskiv argued.
He predicts that Premier Tymoshenko might agree to provide funding for the snap elections and change the election law if the elections are held in spring.
Taras Stetskiv also said he does not know with whom his party will team up in the elections as there is no knowing when and if at all the elections will be.
