Tymoshenko asked me to appoint Viktor Medvedchuk ambassador to Russia, Yushchenko says

Meeting with representatives of the Atlantic Council in New York, Pres Yushchenko said Premier Tymoshenko had asked him to appoint Pres Kuchma’s chief of staff Viktor Medvedchuk Ukraine’s ambassador to Russia or vice premier, Radio Liberty reports.

Yushchenko complained that Tymoshenko had started her encroachments on his powers back in May, the report goes on.

According to Pres Yushchenko, “Tymoshenko and Medvedchuk are top partners in the Ukrainian politics today. They joined forces a lot of time ago, not a month or two months, he said.

“As soon as I nominated Tymoshenko for premier to the parliament, she came to me the following day to ask me to appoint Medvedchuk ambassador to Russia or vice premier. My response was that such a person will never be part of the Ukrainian executive,” the incumbent recounted.

Some time ago, Kyiv was rife with rumors that Viktor Medvedchuk might become Ukraine’s amb in Russia.
