Tymoshenko will resign only if Yushchenko joins forces with Yanukovych

“If Viktor Yushchenko forms a coalition with the Party of Regions, I’ll not be able to remain in the ruling coalition as premier. De-facto, there is a coalition in VR of PoR and breakaway part of NUNS, the United Center party. Ironically, part of the ruling coalition votes against it with the PoR which is the opposition,” Tymoshenko said in a live talk show on Ukrayina TV cannel May 29, The Ukrayinska Pravda quotes her as saying.

Tymoshenko said that, if a broad coalition (PoR + Yushchenko followers in NUNS and United Center) is formed, she will resign.

The premier stressed there is cooperation between PoR and the president, with Rayisa Bohatyryova (secretary of the NDSC and PoR prominent member) being the embodiment of this. “Under a new law on the cabinet, she can call ministers on the carpet and demand their reports. But we had to vote for the new law on the cabinet, because backing it was part of the deal with the president who unblocked parliament in exchange [to pass the legislation needed by the cabinet],” she said.

Simultaneously, Tymoshenko said she has a hope that the existing democratic coalition will be saved. “If the democratic coalition fails, it will turn the clock back to 2004. I believe, the cabinet will cooperate with the ruling coalition. When 5-10 attempts to discredit the cabinet fail, they will know that it is not easy to topple the cabinet, and the relationship will be normal,” she stressed.

Answering a remark of the anchor in a separate episode, Tymoshenko said “Frankly speaking, I’m no fan of the president, because I know much more than you”.
