“The president’s attitude to Lutsenko can be described by the slogan “Everyone must comply with the law.” It was Our Ukraine’s and Lutsenko’s People’s Self-Defense election motto. All the more so that May 28 opens a trial of former Transport Minister Rudkovsky accused of using a government plane for his private purposes. It stumps me: why is Rudkovsky held accountable and Lutsenko not? If the law is the same for all, both must be responsible for what they did,” Herman opined. Lutsenko must be aware of his responsibility, because the rule of law was his campaign battle-cry. If he is not guilty, he can prove it in court. Why plunge in hysterical rhetorics? Why sling mud at everyone? There is a court which will rule who is innocent or guilty, Herman continued.

Herman also said the PoR has always stood for the unification of Ukraine, regardless of whether it is BYUT or NUNS. “All viable political forces must be united, and adventurers and populists sidelined,” she added.

According to H. Herman, PoR has repeatedly stated that snap elections won’t do any good for Ukraine. “We are of the opinion that 2007 snap elections will harm Ukraine. It was a waste of time and money, and caused bitter discouragement in the nation. Instead, we should have united viable political forces and worked in the following format: Lviv with Donetsk, Sevastopol with Ivano-Frankivsk. We all have to live for the sake of Ukraine, as Ivan Franko wrote. The Orangists chose a different way, the way of confrontation and split. We have warned that it is the way to nowhere. Several months of their rule have shown that we were right. That is why the problem of uniting robust forces is acute again.
