Tymoshenko disciples win Kyiv elections, political analyst Dmytro Vydrin says

According to Vydrin, two political forces won the elections in Kyiv, the Chernovetsky bloc and the BYUT bloc. “They prepared well for the elections, working hand in hand, with Yulia Tymoshenko promising wage and pension increases and Chernovetsky implementing these promises in reality. Chernovetsky gave subsidies to almost 500,000 low-income Kievans, in a way, making them addicted to hand-outs. He handed out food rations on a large scale, and Kievans got used to them so much they cannot imagine a life without these hand-outs. Recall the Chernovetsky past campaign slogan “Elect the right party, and you won’t have to work. The rest we’ll do for you – pensions and bonuses.”
For the first time since the 2004 orange revolution, pre-election rhetoric didn’t work, Vydnin believes, Ukrainian got fed up with it, they want a rest. “Chernovetsky found the needed sedative: he goes to sleep 10 minutes before speaking to his audience. So, his sedative works against campaign hysteria, and the Kyievans liked it,” Vydrin opined.
Dmytro Vydrin also commented on a night talks between Vitaly Klitschko and BYUT: “The saying that our democrats unite 5 minutes before they are shot is not correct: they unite 5 minutes after their execution. Klitschko and Tymoshenko tried to make a deal only the night after the vote, while they should have done so months before.”
Next on the agenda, Vydrin opines, are pre-term elections to parliament. “We all know that Yulia Tymoshenko cannot live without the prospect of snap elections on the horizon. As the elections in Kyiv are over, we must expect pre-term elections to Verkhovna Rada,” Vydrin summed up.
