Lutsk mayor quits political battles
May 26, the mayor of Lutsk, Bohdan Shyba, decided to resign from the Batkivshchyna party, a member party of the BYUT bloc, ZIK reports. He explained his motives in his resignation statement to Batkivshchyna leader in the Volyn oblast Anatoly Hrytsiuk. “Being a long-time active participant in the fight for democracy in Ukraine, it pains me to see how the wrangling among various orange parties is reaching its pitiful climax. The wrangling has been inspired by tycoons belonging to various parties and may result in the destruction of civilized Ukraine.”
“Being committed to the ideals of Maidan [site of the 2004 Orange revolution in Kyiv] I have no intention to become a part of the infighting among democratic parties, as it will take me away from my daily work, something my community expects me to do,” Mayor Shyba’s resignation statement runs.
Summing up, he adds: “Based on the above said, I resign from Batkivshchyna. However, I am ready to contribute and support any project that will bring good to Ukraine and the Lutsk community.”
