Lviv mayor angered by cabinet decision to downsize his staff
The government is on track to cut by a half the number of local government officials. “We are overloaded with work, the government, acting as a slave master, takes away 80% of city taxes while we have to beg it for money, Lviv Mayor Andrij Sadovyj said, addressing a session May 16.By contrast, there are twice as many local government officials in Poland, Sadovyj complained.
“Not a single European country treats local officials in the same bad way. All Ukrainian mayors are unanimous in their disapproval of the present situation. When a country is knocking on EU door, it is asked whether its central government complies with local government standards. They in Kyiv only care how to hit each other in their ongoing scuffle,” Mayor Sadovyj said indignantly.
