Yushchenko is no-hoper to become president again, Anatoly Hrytsenko says
“Our Homeland is in peril!” were the first words with which former defense minister Anatoly Hrytsenko addressed his Apr. 24 press conference in Lviv. The system of power in Ukraine is falling apart and there is no rule of the law. The stalemate has been caused by an overt confrontation between the president and Premier Tymoshenko. With his present approval rating at a mere 9%, Yushchenko stands no chance to win his second term in office, Hrytsenko added. The country is in turmoil as the laws are violated by all the state hierarchy. Neither the president nor the government delivers on their duties and commitments. “Although there is an open war between the president and government, we all remember how the government was formed – it is the government Yushchenko made,” he stressed.
The country’s policies should not be hostage to personalities of its leaders and the relationship between them. The forthcoming session of Verkhovna Rada on May 12 and the agenda will show whether the relationship will become better. Much will depend on whether the law on changes in the budget will be approved or the political stand-off in parliament will continue. There is only one way out: put on hold the controversial bills which are likely to be axed and focus on the laws crucial for 47 million of Ukrainians,’ Anatoly Hrytsenko opined.
