Tymoshenko government feet-dragging on paying scholarships to Lviv Franko university students
The cabinet has raised students scholarships to $60, but there are delays in paying them out. Angry students planned protests at the Lviv city council, and soon realized the local authorities have nothing to do with the delays. City authorities are trying to convince the students that higher scholarships will be eventually paid out. However, nobody knows when this is going to happen, a ZIK correspondent reports March 13.According to ZIK’s sources, only students of the Lviv Polytechnic received their scholarships on time. As regards the Lviv Franko university, the home turf of the incumbent education minister, the government has paid out only scholarships in their past amounts.
Ukrainian Academy of Printing students have not received their January and February scholarships at all. Academy’s officials say they are awaiting some resolution by Verkhovna Rada.
