Government commission on state procurements accuses Ivano-Frankivsk lawmakers of law violations and political speculations
Following a decision by Ivano-Frankivsk oblast council deputies to change the existing controversial procurement procedures, the government commission on state procurements bashed them for allegedly violating the laws of Ukraine. The row started when deputies protested high payments to be made by procurement tender participants, and the need in the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast to provide free dinners for schoolchildren. Under the present law, goods and services can be bought via tenders only subject to very high participation payments and the presence of at least two bidders.Ivano-Frankivsk oblast council head Ihor Olijnyk countered the accusations by saying that the oblast lawmakers have taken a very bold step by ignoring invalid tender procedures. They were guided by the need to feed the schoolchildren. After all, he stressed, in line with European standards, local governments are accountable for free dinners and transportation of children in rural areas.
