Western Ukraine: voter turnout triples in Russian presidential election
In total, 629 Russians living in Western Ukraine went to the polls to elect a new president, with 543 or 86.6% supporting a pro-Putin candidate, Dmytry Medvediev, Russia Consul General in Lviv Yevgeny Guzeyev told ZIK March 3.According to G. Guzeyev, 340 Russians voted in Lviv, 96 in Mukacheve, 75 in Rivne, 63 in Chernivtsi, and 55 in Truskavets. Presidential candidate Andrej Bogdanov won 1.12% of the vote, Vladimir Zhyrinovsky 3.99%, Gennady Ziuganov 8.29% and Dmitry Medvediev 86.6%. Compared to the 2004 presidential election when 219 persons voted in Lviv and the 2007 Duma elections when 219 persons voted, three times as many voters cast their ballots now.
Consul Guzeyev thanked the Russian citizens who participated in the election as well as heads of oblasts Lviv, Zakarpattia, Rivne and Chervintsi, mayors of Lviv, Mukacheve, Chernivtsi, Truskavets, Ukraine FO representatives in Lviv and Uzhgorod as well as Russian NGOs for cooperation.
D. Medvediev was supported by 291 voters in Lviv, 88 in Mukacheve, 64 in Rivne, 52 in Chernivtsi and 48 in Truskavets.
According to the election commission under the Russian consul general in Lviv March 3 statement, there were no incidents, complaints, or claims of infringing election rights of voters.
