Zakarpatya customs officials grab truckload of bootleg vodka, save face of Ukraine

Customs officers in Chop, Zakarpatya, claim they have saved the face of Ukraine by preventing a truckload of faked vodka to cross the border to go the Czech republic. On the eve of Ukraine’s accession to the WTO, the export of bootleg booze could have bought Ukraine international sanctions, Ukraine border troops press service told the ZIK information agency Jan. 30.

Ukrainian carriers intended to get through the border 15,000 bottles of bootleg alcohol under a well-known Turkish brand.
In the course by a routine inspection of goods by the Ukrainian customs, officials were alerted by the discrepancies between the alcohol content as declared by the seller and the one belonging to the Turkish brand. While the seller declared a 45% alcohol content, the original Turkish vodka has a 56% content.
This led the customs to launch an extensive check of the cargo. Finally, they found out that the criminals tried to export 15,000 bottles of bootlegged Turkish vodka.
The cargo was arrested, pending further examination and checks. The customs contacted the Turkish producers who denied any permission to Ukrainian companies to distill their product in Ukraine.

Given this, the customs opened a criminal investigation against Ukrainian producers and carriers.
