Lviv deputy governor Taras Batenko condemns Pora purging campaign
“I do not ascribe the expulsion by Pora of Lviv oblast council deputies Andry Rozhniatovsky and Demyan Malyarchuk to their affiliation with Nova Halychyna interfactional group in the oblast council. In my opinion, they were expelled because they disagree with the leaders of Pora Lviv oblast organization, deputy Governor and Nova Halychyna member Taras Batenko told ZIK Jan. 28.“I was surprised to hear that both lawmakers have been purged allegedly for violating the party statute. I think Pora, our fraternal party, has launched a campaign to fight dissent in its ranks. Why didn’t other Nova Halychyna member parties have the same problems? Rozhnyatovsky and Malyarchuk fully complied with the oblast council regimen when they set up the interfactional group,” Taras Batenko concluded.
If Pora seeks to expel the two deputies, it will cross lines with the law on the imperative mandate for local council deputies which bans deputies to vote for other parties, Batenko noted.
The Central Election Commission, Batenko observed, has ruled that political parties cannot expel their defiant deputies – in line with the law on the imperative mandate.
Comment by the ZIK information agency
